I thought the historical value was great, especially the Cuban Missile Crisis.
I will probably buy this after reading the first chapter but I wish it was cheaper and also they would offer more pages like a couple of more chapters. It sounds really good but you can't really tell from only the first chapter or so.
These stories kept me on the edge of my seat, especially the title story, concerning the Cuban Missile Crisis. I've read many of his books and short stories and they never fail to surprise me.
This fascinating novelette is set in October 1962 -- yes, when Cuba was the big threat and the US was braced for atomic war. If you remember that era, this story will bring it to life again in what might be called "living horror-color." If you weren't living then, oh boy, you missed the scare that shook the US. As to NSA and its role in all this, you will not only raise an eyebrow, but both of them, to top level, when you see what NSA had to do with that terrifying drama. And you will see where your tax dollars went in those days -- top level hotel rooms, high-class "pretty ladies," expensive drinks and meals...oh the fun that was had on the taxpayer's dime! Of course, it's all different now...I'm sure...The recent NSA revelations are rather pale by comparison. Really, if you like international thrills and chills, you will not want to miss this book. Cheers for Keith Laufenberg and his writing skills at bringing the past to life -- in all its ugliness.
