This is probably one of the most helpful books I've found to help me get over my procrastination in writing. Time will still need to tell though... :)

That said, I'm really disappointed that so many of the links to the author's own website (even though it appears to be her old site) don't work. I feel like I've missed out on some great resources that I'd have been able to take advantage of if only I'd found this ebook sooner.

If the author doesn't feel like she can offer these resources via her website any longer, that's fine, but please update this ebook to remove the dead links so readers like me don't feel like we're missing out.

I have been a writer almost all my life, and have struggled with excuses and self defeating behaviors from the day I picked up a pen. The exercises in this book are a must have for any writer who has had goals and wondered why she can't seem to meet them. The section on reasons and excuses alone is worth the price of the book.
Easy read. Open my eyes to some things I do organically that hinder my growth as a writer. Gave me plenty of tips and encouragement to expire new options to strengthen my process.
This is an EXCELLENT book and I highly recommend it. I used it as the resource and training guide for a virtual training class I held for aspiring authors. Filled with practical tips on procrastination, perfectionism, writers' block and resistance, and spiced with a little humor, I loved every word. The way you write a book is to sit your butt in the chair and just DO it. A great book for beginner and veteran writers to encourage you to do what you love, write.
This book put the 'cookies' on the lower shelf. Ms. Blanchard has taken the excuse out of procrastinating for writing and...well anything else. This book gives tips on how to get it done. In fact I finished my second novel within two weeks of reading this treasure. If you like writing or have goals this book's for you.
This is an excellent book for writers. I'm using it for a 4 week virtual writers' bootcamp training and it has been perfect. Gives writing exercises and practical tips on how to overcome perfectionism, procrastination and distractions. I love how Jennifer emphasizes the way to write your book is just to sit your butt down in that chair and write it.
You know those times when you pick up a self-help book and it's just want you need? Yep, I'd been agonizing about my writing - rather, the lack of it - for months...years even. Yes, life was busy, very busy, but I say I want to be a writer, so why wasn't I writing? Jennifer helped me cut through my own BS, give my writing the priority I want it to have and get a plan sorted to actually make time for writing - and now I'm DOING what I planned. It feels good!

Reading Jennifer's sections on procrastination - what we get out of it, what we lose by doing it, the reasons and justifications we give ourselves - was enormously helpful. I asked myself all the questions Jennifer posed, wrote in my journal and worked through a lot of 'stuff' that was holding me back from achieving my first goal - to finish writing and editing a novel to a publishable standard.

Some notes from my journal
"How would I encourage a good friend who said they wanted to write a novel? I wouldn't tell my friend that she could never do it because she was too busy, not good enough or that her dreams were worthless. I need to be my own best friend."
"What am I giving up by procrastinating about writing? The chance to share my stories with my readers. The chance to see my name as the 'author'. The chance to change my life by achieving a life-long dream of publishing a book."
"What do I gain by procrastinating? I get to wallow in 'not good enough', 'too busy', 'my dreams aren't important' feelings."

I particularly liked the section on all-or-nothing where Jennifer encouraged me to think of smaller ways to move my book forward. My previous approach would have been if I don't have at least two hours a day to schedule for writing, then I may as well not write at all. But I can jot down plot ideas in 10-15 minutes. I can add a scene idea to my Scrivener file or even as a note on my iPhone to add to Scrivener later. I actually can schedule my day around writing. Being busy is just an excuse!

I think there would be value in re-reading this book once a year or so, just to check in with your mental attitude to writing. If you're struggling to make the commitment to write, I hope you'll find this book as helpful as I did.
Ever since I was a young child I have loved writing, and when I actually commit to doing it, I can be quite capable. However, like so many others I and have struggled motivation and procrastination (do they have a writers' support group for that type of malady?) It seems like I have always managed to come up with excuses and reasons not to do something I TRULY enjoy doing.

I bought this because I was desperately hoping to discover a book that might aid me in my quest to become a more consistent writer. The exercises in this book helped me greatly with working to develop a method in which I am able to CONISISTENTLY produce pages and in doing so become more honed and more confident as a writer. Really - the biggest barrier between being a hobbist and a REAL writer is the consistent production of word and this book a must have for any writer who has always believed that they have a book in them but that the pursuit of writing has fallen into the realm of it being only a fantasy meant for a lucky few.

I would recommend this to ANY writers just starting out - and to any who haven't discovered a way to finish those tons of unfinished ideas.
This is probably one of the most helpful books I've found to help me get over my procrastination in writing. Time will still need to tell though... )
